We all have stories of how we got to where we are in life.
This is an abridged version of mine.
By the time I was 35 I was still struggling to find a fulfilling career. I had been a Cycle Messenger in London, moved to North Wales, passed a degree in Sport, Health & Physical Education, flunked out of a PhD and started lecturing in Research & Statistics at a local FE college. I injured my hamstring at the running track and the NHS told me to rest and use anti-inflammatories, which really did not help. I was recommended to a Rolfer and Sports Massage Therapist and had a series of treatments and rehabilitation. What a revelation! I decided to branch out and study for myself at The London School of Soft Tissue Therapy (LSSM), So, under the supervision of Mel Cash and his tutors I studied the BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy (now Soft Tissue Therapy).
Twenty years later and I have run several clinics. Worked with Elite and recreational athletes around the world. Furthered my studies with a degree in Osteopathy, studied Dry Needling, Taping and Sports & Exercise Medicine at Masters level, amongst other treatment modalities. I’ve travelled, lived and worked in London, Antibes, Monaco, India and Singapore. I have also lectured at LSSM for 14 years and working with Mel Cash set up and ran a school for LSSM in North Wales in 2011 for 3 years.
And now I am realising the opportunity of sharing all these experiences to you in North Wales, A dedicated Soft Tissue Therapy ans continuing professional development school on Anglesey. Opening up access to this great and ever evolving course to people in Wales, I am suppported by colleagues that have agreed to lecture at the Institute from all disciplnes with whom I have worked personally with over my years of working in this sector. All who share the same ethos for excellence in education.
You will find that being a therapist is a satisfying, fulfilling occupation, where no two people you treat are the same. You will never stop learning and you will always find a way to help your clients. The ability to devise a real work-life balance is a key benefit to this career. We are looking forward to meeting you and assisting you in your new career path.
We are one united team, working together with each other and our partners to meet the needs of our students, customers and government.
We take responsibility for our work, focusing on the best outcomes for the student, customer, TWISTT and the company.
We always strive to do the right thing, guided by our Values and ethical principles even when faced with difficult decisions.
We respect all healthcare disciplines, therapists, students and customers.
We believe that everyday is a schoolday. Every encounter is an opportunity to learn. Understanding and being open to all points of view is important both in life and within the medical world. Human beings are unique and respond differently to differing treatments. One treatment does not fit all.
How we seem to listen to and how we communicate with our patients can all affect the outcome of our treatment. Our tone and the language we use can enhance the patient encounter or undermine it.
Within the learning environment we all have experiences that can help shape and add value to the content delivered. Boundaries of mutual respect and tolerance are key within the workshops that we deliver.
Adopt a healthy skepticism towards research but be open to new models.
